There are a few guidelines you should be aware when choosing wood pellets that will save you money in the long run.

The first thing you should be looking for when purchasing wood pellets is what the pellets are made of. The smartest choice is to buy wood pellets that are all wood. That means the pellets should not contain any other by product such as cardboard or bark.
Length
In general, you want to choose pellets that are shorter in length. Shorter pellets feed more fuel into the fire.
Moisture Content
Choose wood pellets with less than 10% moisture content for best burning results.
Soft or Hard
When choosing between soft or hard wood pellets, softer is better. This type will produce more heat, which is ultimately more efficient.
BTU
In general, the higher the BTU’s per pound, the higher the heating content.
Ash
Also look for ash content, the lower the level, the higher the quality of ash.
The bottom line is that you want a product that will output a high level of heat at a minimum level of maintenance burn.
