Turpentine (also called spirit of turpentine, oil of turpentine, and wood turpentine) is a fluid obtained by the distillation of resin obtained from live trees, mainly pines.
Raw (crude) turpentine is described as having the consistency of honey and it is basically the sap of the tree that has not been oxidized or distilled. This is added like a resin to various varnish and paint finish recipes.
