Exports of rattan , bamboo : small capacity prevent large potential

According to MARD , the product structure is irrational rattan current , up to 95 % of the total value of products of this industry are concentrated on traditional products , product groups accounted for only 5 % . Orientation from 2020 and 2030 , the product structure of bamboo processing industry will be 30 % for traditional products and 70 % of group products new products like pressed bamboo , bamboo flooring , panels bamboo lined path ... export value of goods , rattan , bamboo expected to reach $ 1 billion by 2020 . In particular, the value of processed products industry accounts for approximately $ 700 million , the rest belongs to the group of traditional commodities .
XK less than 3 % of the world market
According to the Bureau of Export Import ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) , Vietnam rattan products were exported to more than 120 countries and territories around the world , especially in developed countries like the U.S. , Japan , Germany , Australia , South China , Britain , France , Spain , ... In particular, the U.S. market accounted for over 19 % of the market and the Japanese market accounts for nearly 17 % market share . On average, each year , export turnover from products made of rattan, bamboo reaches $ 200 million . Particularly the first 11 months of 2013, export turnover reached on items of $ 207 million . However, the rattan export of Vietnam is still very small, representing less than 3 % market share of the world market .
Currently, market bamboo world is highly competitive . Report bamboo Mekong Programme shows that market bamboo world in 2013 was approximately $ 15 billion in 2017 and predicted to reach $ 17 billion . In particular , these products are traditionally tough competition to the growth rate tends to slow down . Group of new products , product processing industry is developing potential . This is a great opportunity for industrial bamboo processing enterprises .
Mr. Nguyen Ton Quyen - Secretary General Association of Timber and Forest Products Vietnam said Vietnam has 88 processing enterprises of bamboo with a processing capacity of 250,000 tons / year , 40 companies cloud processing capacity of 4,000 m3 / year . Join 713 village processing also rattan , employing nearly 400,000 workers . However, domestic enterprises have not mastered the tastes and needs of importing countries .
