Since the beginning of December, onion price has moved from 12.000 VND to 14.000 VND/kg. With the price, the profit is over 70 million VND after 60 days planting.

In the middle of November, 2014, Mr. Le Van Dien, lives at Con Trung hamlet, Truong Long Hoa commune, harvested onions on 3.000m2 with productivity of about 1 ton/1.000m2. With selling price of 11.000 VND/kg, he got profit of over 16 million VND.
Mr. Le Van Dien harvested onion on 4.500 m2 at the beginning of December with productivity of 1 ton/1000m2 and dried it on field. He said because it was unseasonal onion, productivity was not high, but with current price, he could get profit of about 35 million VND.
This is 3rd year he chose onion to plant. He said that unseasonal onion brought low productivity, but its seed price decreased from 40.000 VND/kg to 20.000 VND/kg, so farmers could get high profit. According to him, production cost for the season was 3-4 million VND/1000m2 and profit would be 6-8 million VND. Many farmers chose onion to be main plant. He added his family reclaimed land to sow onion on 10.500m2.
Farmers at coastal communes of Duyen Hai district are harvesting unseasonal onion to prepare land for main season. In this season, farmers planted on 150 ha at Truong Long Hoa, Dan Thanh and Dong Hai commune.
According to many farmers, onion area increased quickly because of its advantages in comparison with watermelon or sweet potato. It takes only 60 days to plant and fewer pests, and can be stored in a long time and planted anytime.
